Massive McLaren celebration planned for Amelia Island

A sensational display of McLarens is promised at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance when the Florida event marks the 50th anniversary of the race team.

The 19th annual concours on 9 March will be dedicated to the only marque to win the F1 Constructors' Championship, the Indianapolis 500, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Can-Am Championship.

Cars that will be at the event include the Cosworth-powered M23 took Jochen Mass to second place in the 1977 Swedish Grand Prix.

Concours founder and chairman Bill Warner said: "McLaren's unblinking quest to improve upon what many called 'perfection' is what made it the most successful racing team in history.

"No one can match its successes across such a broad range of racing disciplines. Only Ferrari has won more F1 titles than McLaren, but Ferrari had a 17 year head-start."
