An effortlessly cool Mercury Sled took the People’s Choice award at the inaugural celebration of all things American – Simply American – at the National Motor Museum last weekend.

It was the second prize in as many weeks for the Mercury, owned by Terri Smith, which also scooped Overall Best in Show at the fifth annual Custom and Hot Rod Festival we covered last week.

Runner-up prize went to Paul Parker, from Andover, for his 1993 Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Corvette.
American marques were out in force with everything from Corvettes and Mustangs to Cadillacs and Buicks. Event sponsor

Chevrolet even brought along cars such as its red and black-striped Camaro, a World Touring Car and the company’s electric car, the Volt.

The event was brought to a close by a 12-car cavalcade through the surrounding parkland.
