MGB to take starring role at Silverstone event

| 29 Mar 2012

The MG Car Club’s award-winning MGLive! celebration returns to Silverstone on 23-24 June with thousands of MGs spanning all eras expected to attend, along with enthusiasts from more than 15 countries. The star of the show, however, will be the MGB, which this year reaches its half-century.

The MGCC will again be using Silverstone’s full Grand Prix circuit and a packed programme of events is planned. The MGB50 celebration race will take centre stage on the Saturday. The 50-minute event for FIA-spec MGBs running on Dunlop historic tyres will include a mandatory pitstop.

Off-track, an MGB50-themed street party will take place on the Saturday, while on Sunday afternoon a circuit tour means that MGB owners will be able to experience Silverstone's famous layout for themselves. The 10th anniversary of the MGTF will also be recognised with an 'After All Hours Party' on Saturday evening.

The weekend will include the usual blend of Live Arena action, Trade City, autojumble, free on-site vintage bus transport, autotest and autosolo competitions, rocker-box racing, air displays and a 'Kidzone'.

Macmillan Cancer Support, the club's chosen charity, will have its mobile cancer information bus on-site.

The MGCC General Manager Julian White said: “MGLive! showcases the very best of the MG Car Club and we’re extremely excited about returning to Silverstone for a 62nd year. Of course, 2012 represents the 50th anniversary of the MGB. The MG Car Club is based in Abingdon, so we know first-hand how much the MGB means to people in the town. It’s only natural we have big plans for the MGB50 anniversary and we’re looking forward to celebrating in style.”
