Revival theme gets a little help from Tesco

The Goodwood Revival’s fantastic period atmosphere is again set to be boosted by an expanded retro-style supermarket.

Tunnocks’ teacakes, traditional cream soda and Mr Whippy ice cream cones are just some of the tasty period treats that will be on offer at retail giant Tesco’s supermarket at the 16 to 18 September historic motor sport event.

The concept by event sponsor Tesco makes a welcome return to the paddock surrounds, following the store’s debut last year, and the retailer is promising a larger shop and increased product offerings.

Treets, Marathon Bars, Opal Fruits and Bournville chocolate are just some of the many household favourites – along with Burdock & Dandelion and Double Diamond beer – that will line the store’s three aisles in period packaging.

Completing the theme will be the retail outlet’s check-out assistants, who will be dressed in vintage uniforms, with their hair and make-up styled in the fashion of the era.

Andrew Higginson, CEO of Tesco Retailing Services is confident about the store’s period feel: “No matter what age they are, people love taking a trip down memory lane. We have spent months planning the retro Tesco offering, poring over old photographs and employee reports, to ensure we give customers an authentic 1960s shopping experience.”

The Tesco outfit at Goodwood will only be slightly smaller in size than the retailer’s current Express format, while the product range will extend to a limited-edition Goodwood Revival-branded Tesco gift card and Bag for Life.
