Six-wheeled Tyrrell to star at Classic & Sports Car Show

| 14 Oct 2016

Alexandra Palace Park is set to reverberate to the roar of a genuine Formula One icon during the upcoming Classic & Sports Car Show from 28-30 October. Thanks to Elf, a brand of Total, and HTX Classic Cars – its new range of classic engine oils – we have been able to secure the ultimate course car: the Tyrrell P34/6 six-wheeler.

Prepared by historic racing gurus at Hall and Hall, this car (chassis 6) raced under the Elf brand and is regularly campaigned in historics. The radical P34s were introduced in the 1976 season and were piloted by the likes of Jody Scheckter and Patrick Depailler until being replaced in 1978.

Chassis 6’s competition debut was made at the 1977 Austrian Grand Prix with Ronnie Petersen behind the wheel. Petersen placed fifth – the car’s best finish of six races that season, with its final outing at the Japanese Grand Prix ending in an accident that forced its retirement from the race.

Now, the 3-litre Cosworth-powered monster is poised to serve as the course car at the Classic & Sports Car Show, completing a number of high-octane demonstration runs throughout the course of the event. The Tyrrell will be joined by a host of classic and supercars, some of which will be announced over the coming days.
