| 9 Apr 2015

With dozens of new classic cars for sale being advertised every day, we thought it might be helpful to separate the wheat from the chaff and round up the top five cars recently added to  classicandsportscar.com  in an easy to digest format – so here it is. There’s something to suit every taste and budget, plus each advert has been certified ‘fresh’ by the C&SC team.

Very few classics manage to seamlessly blend the raucous power of a thumping V8 engine with elegance and sophistication, which makes the Bristol 411 something quite special. On the outside, the 411 is sensible and understated, while beneath the bonnet lurks a 6.3-litre Chrysler V8 capable of propelling the car to an impressive 140mph.

If you’re in the market for a powerful saloon, you could do far worse than a former Bristol Owners’ Club Concours winner.

While the E34 5-Series may lack the classic lines of the earlier E28 models, it now holds a certain level of retro cool that means prices are beginning to rise, especially for the best cars. For this sort of money you could be looking at the hotter M5 edition, but you’d be forced to consider leggy examples that have probably lived a fairly hard life. This 535, however, has clearly been well looked after.

As well as having the desirable manual transmission, it’s covered just 34,000 miles and is described as being in excellent condition. If you’re looking for a bargain performance saloon that has all the ingredients of a sound investment, this BMW could very well be just the ticket.

Click here to see this Lotus Elise – £11,495

Classic cars for sale

The Lotus Elise was a real game-changer when it arrived in 1996. It stayed true to the Lotus maxim of ‘performance through light weight’, combining miniature supercar looks with sublime handling and a real turn of pace – and at a price that was attainable for the average enthusiast.

It’s difficult to believe that the Elise is now approaching its 20th birthday and, though prices of early cars are beginning to increase, they still offer incredible value for money. This 1998 example has had a recent cambelt service as well as some work to the hood by a reputable specialist, so it hasn’t been run on a shoestring. The Larini exhaust isn’t standard, but will make all the difference to the driving experience.

Click here to see this Ford Escort Mk2 – £5000

Classic cars for sale

With values of fast Fords skyrocketing in recent years, classics such as the Mk1 Mexico and Mk2 RS2000 have escaped the reach of all but the wealthiest and most committed Blue Oval fans. The knock-on effect has been that entry level models have also gone up in price as more and more replicas are built and more valuable models are re-shelled.

All of this means that an affordable Mk2 Escort is becoming increasingly difficult to find. This yellow car has probably escaped the worst of the price inflation due to being a less desirable four-door version, while the automatic transmission will have put off many. Despite that, it has the look of a very well-kept classic and, at this price, it won’t hang around for long.

As the vendor is quick to point out, you won’t find a Chapron-bodied car for this sort of money. However, the fact that this is a later conversion will trouble only the most dedicated Citroën enthusiasts.

It isn’t clear how much restoration work will be required to get this beauty back on the road, but it doesn’t seem too daunting from five yards away. This could be the perfect summer project for the right person.
