Evans and Scheckter join forces for charity event

Radio 2 Breakfast Show DJ and famed petrolhead Chris Evans is launching an all-new family-friendly classic-car festival for 2012.

Tagged CarFest, the new event will take place over the August Bank Holiday weekend at former F1 World Champion Jody Scheckter's organic farm Laverstoke Park and raise money for Evans' favoured charity, Children in Need.

Evans claims that "the main focus will be on the cars", with dealer displays and a special hillclimb running through the centre of the countryside venue, but he has also promised fun for all the family, with children's entertainment, plus artisan food stalls.

Celebrities already confirmed include chef James Martin – who will bring his cars as well as his pots and pans for cooking displays – plus you can expect Evans to bring his wonderful 1963 Ferrari 250GTO (C&SC, April 2010).

There will be special runs up the hill, with cars climbing in groups of 'magnificent sevens', while on the Saturday evening a concert will be headlined by rock band Texas.

Ticket prices have yet to be announced, but are expected to include camping on-site for the Friday and Saturday nights (24-25 August). Watch this space for further details, but in the meantime you can read more on Evans' blog.
