Famous Fords unite for centenary

Five of the most memorable Fords to feature on film and television were brought together at Elstree Studios in London on 18 October, as part of the Dagenham car-maker’s 100 years of Ford of Britain celebrations.

The Ford Anglia from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets lined up alongside the pink FAB 1 from the recent remake of Thunderbirds and the Ford Mondeo that Daniel Craig (in his role as 007) drove in the James Bond film Casino Royale – along with the Ford Granada from The Sweeney TV series and “Bessie”, Dr Who’s yellow Ford Popular that was modified to look like an Edwardian car (below).

Anglia owner John Colyer was on hand: “I’d been involved with Ford Anglia clubs for 30 years when I was asked by the film makers to provide a car for the movie,” explained Colyer. “After that it just took off and I ended up supplying around 15.”

Visitors to the Borehamwood studios were impressed to hear that FAB 1 is fully road legal and that the Ford Mondeo – which is permanently on display at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu – was Ford’s prototype, the Bond flick coming out before the model hit the showrooms.
