Cars such as Ford’s GT40 and Porsche’s 956 will join an exhibit entitled Legends of Le Mans as the famous endurance race marks its 90th anniversary on 22-23 June.

A 20,000-strong public vote selected a racer from each decade of the event’s existence, while a team of 12 experts made the final decision in Paris.

The panel chose 11 cars in total including the Bentley Speed Six, Alfa Romeo 8C, Ferrari 166MM, Jaguar D-type, Porsche 917K, plus Audi’s R10 and R18.

Mazda’s 787B and Peugeot’s 905 received an equal number of votes so both cars took a place in the final selection.

All the racers will take part in a parade lap of the 8.47-mile Circuit de la Sarthe before the start of the main event.
