Movie star Tucker goes on show at Hershey

| 10 Nov 2016

A replica 1948 Tucker 48 which played a starring role in the film Sin City 2 has gone on display at the Antique Automobile Club of America Museum in Hershey, Pennsylvania, where it will remain until 1 April 2017.

The car was built by Rob Ida Concepts in Morganville, New Jersey after being commissioned by producers of Frank Miller’s Sin City 2, which was directed by Robert Rodriguez. The Tucker features throughout the picture and is driven by Mickey Rourke and Eva Greene, as well as taking part in a number of exciting chase scenes. The classic remained on screen for majority of filming, while the stunts were created using computer imaging.

Once filming ended, the weathered Tucker returned to Rob Ida Concepts, who quickly re-purposed it as a tow vehicle for the one time world’s fastest motorcycle – Gyronaut XI. The near 300mph streamliner was a twin Triumph-engined bike created by Alex Tremulis, who was also credited for his design work on the Tucker 48. Both vehicles returned to the Salt Flats at Bonneville for the bike’s 50th anniversary celebrations in 2013.

The AACA Museum is also home to the world’s largest collection of genuine Tucker 48s. Three of the vehicles are on permanent display in the museum’s Cammack Tucker Gallery, along with several experimental Tucker engines, a factory test chassis, and even the original barn door from the Tucker family farm.
