Gilles Villeneuve to be celebrated by new rally

| 8 Jan 2013

The Villeneuve Cup will commemorate the life of the Canadian six-time Grand Prix winner on 13-14 June with a rally from Viareggio, Italy, to Monte Carlo.

The competing machines will be split into four categories: classics produced until 1972, cars built from 1973-’92 (with at least 250bhp), ‘instant classics’ made from 1993 (with at least 500bhp) and electric cars.

The full route is yet to be announced, but it will take in the valleys of the Tuscan and Ligurian countryside, travelling through Viareggio to Portofino on day one, and Portofino to Monte-Carlo on day two.

The awards ceremony will take place on the evening of the 14th at the Café de Paris in the Principality.
