HSCC to launch Super Touring Car Championship at Thruxton

| 6 Mar 2014

The second Thruxton Easter Revival will recapture the excitement of the mid-Nineties touring car battles when it hosts the most recent addition to the historic motor sport calendar on 19-20 April. The opening round of the Super Touring Car Championship aims to revive the bumper-to-bumper action so adored by television audiences twenty years ago.

Thruxton Group Managing Director, Bill Coombs, said: “Lots of us grew up watching those epic BTCC battles on our TVs and so it’s great to see so many of those fantastic cars – not to mention a few of the illustrious drivers – recreating what was a memorable period in motor sport history.”

As well as the Nissan Primeras, Vauxhall Vectras and Renault Lagunas that made the series so special – plus the earlier Ford Sierra RS500s, some of the legendary drivers will also be present. Double BTCC champion John Cleland, famous for his battles with Steve Soper, and touring car racer Patrick Watts will both be getting behind the wheel.

Coombs went on to say: “Thruxton is the fastest and most challenging circuit in the UK and thus the perfect place for fans to see these incredible machines back in breath-taking action.”
