Huge Silverstone parade to mark 50 years of the 911

| 7 Mar 2013

The Silverstone Classic will pay homage to the Porsche 911 on 28 July with a parade of 911 of the cars.

The convoy will feature five decades of the German icon, thanks to help from Porsche Club GB, covering the Carrera, RS, RSR, GT, Speedster, Targa and Turbo variants.

The Porsche’s formidable heritage in motor sport will also be marked with winners from racing and rallying.

Porsche Club GB Nick Hine Chairman said: “Achieving 911, Porsche 911s on track at Silverstone all at the same time initially seemed an ambitious target.
“However, there has been strong interest from owners from all over the world and we already have nearly 400 confirmed participants.”

The ‘911 x 911’ parade will raise funds for the Hope for Tomorrow cancer charity and is the third massive event of its type to be held at the Silverstone Classic powered by the AA.

The festival hosted a world record 60 Ferrari F40s last year and 767 Jaguar E-types in 2010, marking the models’ 25th and 50th anniversaries respectively.

Event Director Nick Wigley added: “Importantly these amazing parades allow owners and enthusiasts to join the party and play their own part in such special festivities. It’s a fantastic opportunity that I’m sure no one lucky enough to have a 911 will want to miss.”

Anyone wanting to participate should contact the Porsche Club GB office either by telephoning 01608 652911 or by email via:
