HERO’s arduous Summer Trial was won by father and son duo Michael (65) and Simon Baker (35) in a Porsche 911SC (main pic).

Held from 12-14 July and based at Goodwood, the Historic Endurance Rally Organisation’s event was marred by adverse weather, but passed off without major incident.

Second place went to a 1973 Lotus Elan driven by rally regulars Graham Walker (63) and Sean Toohey (25), who won the Scottish Malts Rally in May. Third was secured by a 1964 Triumph TR4, which was driven by Tony Sheach (45) and navigated by Richard Lambley (48).  Known as ‘Team Triumph’ the pair completed an all-British podium.

Clerk of the course Peter Nedin said: “At times the conditions were horrendous. Drivers from continental Europe couldn’t believe it, but in true British spirit everyone just got on with it and enjoyed themselves.”

“The staff at Goodwood and other venues, including Beaulieu, were fantastic and in the end we only had to cancel one test because of deep water, ” Nedin added.
The event concluded with a black-tie awards dinner at Goodwood House with Britsh saloon car legend, ‘gentleman’ Jack Sears, handing out the prizes.
