The trip of a lifetime

The run kicks off at Portsmouth on Thursday 5 July, when readers will meet up with the C&SC team to kick tyres and talk classics before boarding the 20:30 overnight ferry to St Malo. There’ll be the chance to have a bite to eat followed by a few glasses of 1664 and a chinwag before retiring to your reserved cabin.

Upon arrival at St Malo, the group will set off in convoy towards Le Mans, sticking to the back roads and following a bespoke roadbook penned specifically for the event, before stopping for a mid-morning breakfast.

Among the cars leading the convoy will be art editor Martin Port’s trans-Africa1959 Land-Rover Series II, while editor-in-chief Alastair Clements will be behind the wheel of his recently revived Suzuki Whizzkid followed by features editor Greg MacLeman in his freshly painted 1974 Triumph 2500TC – providing he can get it fixed in time!

The convoy will arrive at La Sarthe just in time to visit the supermarché and stock up on supplies, before setting up camp at the Porsche Curves – a secure campsite with top-notch shower facilities and a hospitality marquee.

What follows is three action-packed days soaking up the sun while watching some of the world’s greatest historic racing machines being put through their paces, with everything from pre-war Bentleys to howling Group C monsters taking to the circuit.

You won’t have to travel too far for a view, either – the trackside campsite boasts its own private banking, meaning you won’t miss a second of the action. As the event draws to a close on Monday morning, the group will enjoy a farewell breakfast before the leisurely drive back to Caen for the 16:30 crossing, arriving in the UK at 21:15.

In addition to return ferries, entrance tickets, and access to the paddock, the package includes a parking pass for the infield Bugatti Circuit, which serves as the heart of the clubs action throughout the weekend, plus a C&SC goody bag and breakfast each morning.

Tickets cost £565 per person, based on two sharing a car. Click here or call 0844 873 0203 to reserve your place
