A special display has been confirmed for next weekend’s Heveningham Concours to celebrate the centenary of the Le Mans 24-hour race.

The line-up includes a Porsche 956 piloted by Ayrton Senna, a Mercedes-Benz CLK LM GT1 and an original Bentley 4½ Litre.

These will form part of the 50-car concours at Heveningham Hall, Suffolk, on 8-9 July.

Although best known for his Formula One career, Ayrton Senna also tried endurance racing in a Porsche 956

The 1983 Porsche 956 Group C car heading to Heveningham Concours was raced by three-time Formula One drivers’ champion Ayrton Senna in the 1984 Nürburgring 1000km.

One of 12 956s delivered to customer teams in 1983, this example, finished in yellow, white and black, was campaigned by one of the most successful privateers, Reinhold Joest.

The 956 and its 962 sibling became synonymous with the 24-hour enduro, these models winning the race seven times.

Bentley won Le Mans four times between 1927 and 1930, and a ‘Blower’ (left) will be at Heveningham Concours 2023, joined by a 1958 Lister-Jaguar

The Porsche 956 will be joined at Heveningham Concours by a 1958 Lister-Jaguar, a British sports car given the nickname ‘Knobbly’ because of its curvy, aerodynamic shape.

Representing the early years of Le Mans will be a 1931 ‘Blower’ Bentley, fresh from an outing at this year’s Le Mans Classic.

And more modern Le Mans machinery will be on show, too, courtesy of a 1997 Porsche GT1 Evo and a 1998 Mercedes-Benz CLK LM.

“We are still slightly in awe of the incredible selection of cars that will be coming to Heveningham Concours this year,” said event organiser Lois Hunt.

Alongside the display of Le Mans racers and other concours cars will be a selection of historic aeroplanes in the Aviation Concours.

And away from the static show, Horsepower Hill will give visitors the chance to see a variety of classic and modern cars in action.

Heveningham Concours returns to Heveningham Hall in Suffolk on 8-9 July. Visit the website for more information.
