RIP Willie Rutherford
15 Sep 2011
Rally driver Willie Rutherford has died. Rutherford competed in a vast array of cars including Porsche 911, rotary-engined Mazdas, Ford Sierra 4x4, Escorts and, probably most famously, a Metro 6R4. Hitting a purple patch in the mid-'80s, Rutherford recorded wins on the Granite City Rally and Cumbria Rally in 1985 and the Yorkshire Rally the following year. Rutherford hung up his boots in 1986, but re-emerged in 2008 in New Zealand (to where he had moved) to drive a Porsche 911 on the Silver Fern Rally.
