One of about 40 surviving Ligier JS2s will be at this year’s Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace from 5-7 September.
Created by former racing driver and Formula One team owner Guy Ligier (1930-2015), the JS2 was designed to take on the best sports cars from Italy and elsewhere in the 1970s.
This summer, a black-and-red example will compete against 60 of the world’s finest classic cars for the Concours of Elegance Best in Show trophy.
The Ligier name is well known in F1 circles, but the French firm was also a sports-car maker in the 1970s
Ligier, who was also a successful businessman, rower, rugby player and motorcycle racer, made his F1 debut in 1966, behind the wheel of a Cooper-Maserati.
Although he later returned to F1 as a team boss, the death of his friend Jo Schlesser at the 1968 French Grand Prix put him off competing in single-seaters.
Instead, in the late 1960s, Ligier switched to building and campaigning sports cars.
