The Malvern Hills will come alive to the sounds of engines as Classic Nostalgia returns to Shelsley Walsh on 16-17 July.

The world’s oldest motorsport venue to still feature its original course is also one of the most charming, in a beautiful setting and with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

Classic and vintage cars will join special guests to celebrate the 11th running of the event – here’s what’s in store.

1. BRM’s birthday party

BRM is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its sole Formula One Constructors’ World Championship win with the V8-powered P578 at Shelsley Walsh this year.

Also lining up to mark the occasion are more than 20 historic BRMs which will be on show over the weekend, whilst the V16 engine of a continuation BRM P15 revving to 12,000rpm will surely make its presence heard – and turn plenty of heads.

2. Classic & Sports Car’s Concours d’Elegance

The showcase will focus on rally cars that were designed, built and campaigned in Britain.

The MG Metro 6R4 driven by the late Colin McRae on the 2006 Donegal International Rally will be a super sight when Ian Barkaway takes it up the Shelsley Walsh hillclimb – and if you fancy a run with him, charity raffle tickets will be sold, offering that opportunity.

4. Classic vehicle display

A selection of famous cars will be tackling the 1000-yard long hillclimb.

Gerry Marshall’s Austin Cooper ‘S’ in which he won his class at 1965’s Snetterton 500km will be piloted up the course by his son, Gregor, as part of a parade to celebrate his father’s tin-top racing career. The line-up will also feature a Group 1 Vauxhall Magnum and the Aston Martin V8-powered Magnum Super Saloon.

Other cars confirmed for the meeting include an ex-Elio de Angelis 1979 Shadow DN9B F1 car, a Hepworth Ferguson FF AWD, which was built specifically for hillclimbing, and ERA R4D.

6. Famous faces

Le Mans-winner Richard Attwood (pictured) will be one of the star guests at Classic Nostalgia 2022, where he will be behind the wheel of his 1964 BRM P261, as part of the marque’s aforementioned anniversary celebrations.

Attwood will be joined at Shelsley Walsh by fellow former BRM F1 drivers Howden Ganley and Mike Wilds, alongside the well-respected ex-BRM engineer, Dick Salmon, who worked on the cars of F1 champions Juan Manuel Fangio, Mike Hawthorn and Graham Hill.

7. Battle of Britain memorial flight

The skies above the famous Worcestershire hillclimb will also rumble to the sound of an Avro Lancaster and Supermarine Spitfire.

Flypasts will be happening on both days of the event (an Avro Lancaster on Saturday, a Supermarine Spitfire on Sunday), to commemorate those who have lost their lives in service and help educate younger generations.
