Your dream garage... at 2002 prices
Following on from my blog, if you want to play the game, here are links to C&SC's 2002 Price Guide, hopefully large enough for you to read:
The rules (so simple that even I understand them):
10 cars maximum
Total spend not to exceed £100,000
Cars only in 'average' or 'show' condition.
James, saw your list. I am less fortunate, only can get four cars for the money, but in show condition:
1. Porsche 911S 2,4 at £18000
2. Citroën DS Décapotable Chapron at £18000
3. Dino 246GT at £40000
4. E-Type S2 FHC at 21000
Total: £97000 (need the £3000 left for servicing)
Fantastic fun! Thanks James :)
- Ginetta G4 - £11,000
- Lotus Elite - £18,000
- Alpine A110 1660S - £16,000
- Ford Escort Twin Cam - £4,500
- Lancia Stratos - £32,500
- Standard 8 - £800
- Porsche 912 - £4,500
Total = £87,300
Missing from that list are the cars I love, but would be too much, even back in 2002:
- Alfa Tipo 33 Stradale
- Jag XKSS
- Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato
I nearly bought a new (Dare) G4 back in 2002/3 but I guess I now have my Lotus Elan Sprint, so mustn't grumble :)

Definitely wiser than buying 10 'average' cars Mario!

Three of this list (Alpine, Stratos and Elite) were on my shortlist, but didn't make the cut. If I do it again tomorrow, as I probably will, they might creep back in.
1) Alfa Giulietta Sprint Veloce 16.000
2) Bristol 405 13.500
3) DS Safari 7.500
4) Lancia Aurelia B20GT 26.000
5) Lotus XI 22.000
6) Escort RS 1600 4.500
Variety is the spice of life....
This is very cruel James! Please don't make me chose. My head hurts and I don't want to play anymore.

If it helps just do a 'niche' list to start with. I have done loads of different permutations now and am now putting together "platic-only" or "just V6s" selections and the like. I'll post a few of them when I get a chance, because I don't think I can pass that off as work!
I'd have a TR3a for £6,750 and keep the change.
1) Alfa Romeo Giulia SS - 11,000
2) Alfa Romeo Alfetta Gt - 1250
3) BMW 3.0 CSL - 6500
4) Ferrari 365BB - 30,000
5) Ford Escort RS1800 - 5000
6) Lancia Aurelia B20 GT - 12,500
7) Lotus Espirit S1 - 4250
8) Maserati Bora - 15,500
9) Porsche 911 S 2.4 - 12,000
10) Triumph GT6 MkII - 2500
All in average condition... who wants garage queens?! 500 pounds left over.
Received this via e-mail from legendary motor sport snapper Jeff 'Blocco' Bloxham, who clearly can't work the internet. Or count!
