Triple-British Rally Champion to drive Tiger V8 at Stoneleigh

| 29 Jan 2013

Russell Brookes will appear at the wheel of an ex-works Sunbeam Tiger on Race Retro’s Live Rally Stage in Warwickshire from 22-24 February.

The 4.2-litre V8 machine was the first works Tiger to be built and has not been raced in more than 20 years, but C&SC senior contributor Julian Balme was smitten with the Sunbeam when he tested it for an article in our November 2010 issue.

Restored by JME Healeys, it comes with matching numbers, plus the blue and black team colours last seen on the 1966 Acropolis Rally, when Peter Harper drove the car to victory.

Other cars on show include machines from Classic Team Lotus, Alpine’s World Rally Championship-winning Alpine A110 and Whistling Billy the record-breaking steam car from 1904.

Silverstone Auction’s sale on Saturday features lots such as a 1985 Ford Sierra Cosworth Group N car, an iconic 1962 Leyland Routemaster and a 1969 Lola T70 MkIII B.

Advance tickets start at £20 for adults and £5 for children aged 5 -15. Children go free on Sunday.
