World’s most desirable classics to tour UK

| 18 May 2015

A Ferrari 250GT SWB and 288GTO will be among a host of priceless classics taking part in what is thought to be one of the most valuable precessions of automobiles to feature at a charity rally in the UK. The event, which will involve more than 50 significant cars, is due to take place on 10-11 July, and will raise money to support HOPEHIV, which helps orphans and vulnerable young people affected by the Aids epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Hope Classic Rally begins at Brooklands in Surrey, before taking a meandering 100-mile route to Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire.

In addition to the two headline-grabbing Ferraris, a number of Aston Martin DB4 and DB5s are also confirmed to attend, as is a race-prepared Jaguar XK120, a Lamborghini Miura, a Mercedes-Benz 300SL and a Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS.

Despite the stellar entry list, all classic cars are welcome on the event, while owners will have the chance to rub shoulders with a number of motor racing legends, not to mention The Classic Car Show’s Jodie Kidd and Quentin Willson, who will be filmed for the series during the rally.

Event organisers are hoping to raise more than £150,000 for HOPEHIV, with entrants making a predetermined donation to the charity by way of an entry fee.

“Joining the UK’s passion for classic cars with our national desire to help those less fortunate than us is a noble endeavour and one that, over the years, could potentially raise millions,” said Quentin Willson. “This is the perfect way to give pleasure to onlookers and participants, while raising vital support and awareness for HOPEHIV. I’m proud to see out enthusiasm for old cars being used to benefit such an important cause.”

Phil Wall, speaking on behalf of HOPEHIV, said: “We are so grateful to all who have confirmed their attendance so far at The Hope Classic Rally. The money raised will be used to support a generation of young people who have been the victims of incredible tragedy, yet refuse to give up hope.”
