Gatherings of pristine machines took place in several locations around the globe to celebrate MG's 80th.
A total of 102 clubs and 25,000 owners were involved in the global party, named 'MG80!', from 16-18 October 2010. This then, is the largest-ever MG event.
The MG Car Club of China was formed in conjunction with the celebrations and this was its first event. It featured SAIC's (owner of MG) heritage fleet on show, as well as MGCC general manager Julian White as a guest of honour.
White said the response to the MG80! worldwide Google map and timeline had been 'overwhelming', receiving more than 23,000 hits since its inception.
"MG is Abingdon's most famous export, so we're thrilled to have commemorated our part in its heritage."
Similar gatherings were held in Australia, South Africa, Europe, North and South America, Canada and Alaska. These ranged from a race meeting in Tasmania, a road run in Argentina and a midnight gymkhana in Auckland, to drives and dinners around the UK.
