Excellence revives Reims road

| 13 Nov 2010

More than 30,000 spectators and 200 cars at the fourth Week-End de l'Excellence de Reims brought the historic Reims-Gueux road circuit to life on 11-12 September.
Klazinus Noordjik's 1901 Clement Tourer, the oldest car present, Willem Kroon's '51 Ferrari 212 F1 car and the ex-Nino Vaccarella '68 Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 were among the racers that turned out for parade laps.
Jaguar Heritage brought a '53 C-type to honour Stirling Moss and Peter Whitehead's 12 Hours victory at the circuit in that year, while Skoda brought a selection from its Czech museum, including the rare '58 968 1100cc Spider and '37 909 Popular Sport Monte Carlo. The latter was one of 25 coupes built to celebrate Skoda's second in class on the '36 Rallye Monte-Carlo.
Le Mans hero Henri Pescarolo was on hand to meet fans before demonstrating the Matra MS10, while rally ace Jean-Pierre Nicolas thrilled the crowds in an ex-works Peugeot 205 T16 Evo 1.
