Nothing heralds the end of winter like a bright red MGB with wire wheels and this lovely car will brighten the dullest day. Fresh from the paint shop, it is in superb condition throughout. First registered in August 1974, it is one of the last of the chrome bumper MGs. It was acquired by a local independent MG specialist last year as a winter project. It was in excellent structural condition but having been little used in recent years it needed full mechanical recommissioning and the paintwork was dull and tired. As well as the full respray (recorded in a series of photographs) it has had a full carburettor rebuild, the brakes have been overhauled, a new battery fitted and a full service carried out. The wheels have also been refinished. Structurally this is as good a B as we have had in a long while. The underside, sills and floors are hard to fault, as is the outer structure. The body was previously refinished in the 'seamless' style (as on the RV8) which may not please purists but looks great. Clearly a lot of money has been spent over the years. We have noted the rear telescopic shock conversion, stainless exhaust and Kenlowe fan, along with cosmetic additions such as the full leather seats. An expensive mohair hood is fitted, with matching padded cover and full tonneau. On the road the MG drives just as it should. The engine has excellent oil pressure and the gearbox is slick. The overdrive operates perfectly and the steering and suspension feel tight and accurate. Properly sorted and looking great, it is ready to go.
