2-door 5-seater coupé/hatchback coupé.
Third generation Mustang, rare in Britain, rode on longer (104.4ins) wheelbase, compared with 96.2ins of older car, with new Fairmont/Zephyr suspension and mix of existing and ever older corporate engines. Coil and radius arms rear linkage helped traction, and in early eighties turbocharged 'four' of 140bhp (net) helped performance. By comparison, 4.2-litre V8 was emasculated by emission control. Sharp-edged style quite unlike previous model. After facelifts, still built at end of 1980s.
