Say thank you to dad!
This year, Father’s Day in the UK and the US falls on Sunday 20 June, meaning you’ve not long to go to find that perfect something to tell your dad – or maybe grandfather or the father figure in your life – just how special they are.
If he is a classic car enthusiast, though, we can help! We’ve searched high and low to compile our list of some of the best gifts out there at a wide range of price points.
We hope you enjoy flicking through this list. You never know, you may find something so you can treat yourself, too…
All prices correct at date of publication
-
1. Gunson Classic Wooden Handle Screwdrivers (from £13.34)
If your dear dad loves nothing more than fettling his beloved classic car, then how about one of these delightfully retro-styled flathead screwdrivers, in 160x9mm, 200x9.5mm, 250x10mm and 300x10.5mm sizes.
The handles have wooden inserts, with a pleasing weight and an old-school feel, and the hardened, heat-treated high-carbon blades extend to the end of the tool, so a hammer shouldn’t damage the timber.
-
2. NOCO Boost XL GB50 (£145)
Does dad’s classic sometimes need a little, err, assistance? ‘Small but mighty’ is the best description of this unit. Its compact dimensions make it easy to stick in the boot without you really knowing it’s there, other than to offer peace of mind, while its built-to-last feel hopefully means it will do just that. Reverse-polarity protection is a welcome safety feature, too.
Its 1500A output has proved more than enough to get any of C&SC’s classics back up and running – and it has been a real lifeline – so it could be just as useful for your father, too. The manufacturer even claims it’ll do up to 30 starts on a single charge, but we’d keep an eye on its level of charge.
When it finally needs more juice, this is done via USB – which also means it can be used to charge mobile phones, tablets and the like – and it comes in a neat bag. Plus it has an integrated LED torch.
-
3. Drive Coffee (from $18)
We’re big coffee drinkers at C&SC and these Drive Coffee packs from the USA swap the usual nondescript brown paper bag for racing-inspired oil can-style tins. The subjects are similarly focused and take the ‘cars and coffee’ mantra to a new level: Le Mans, Monaco, Imola, Jochen, Jim and Trophy.
Most important, packaging aside, is the coffee. Grinding and brewing at home can be a tricky business but the coffee’s operating window is pretty wide, and it’s good; light but strong.
For those in the UK it will quickly add up – expect $40 all-in with the hefty shipping and taxes – but delivery is quick and the 12oz tins are bigger than most shop-bought bags. And it’s still cheaper than nipping to Costa or Starbucks.
-
4. Classic car mugs (£10)
You’ve got the coffee, now you need a mug! And we think these are rather cool and a bit different – perfect for when dad is working on his car, because you won’t see the oily marks!
These charming 11oz ceramic mugs are from a collection with designs featuring, among other things, Castrol GTX, Gulf, Jim Clark’s Indy Lotus, Ayrton Senna’s JPS racer, Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson’s ‘722’ Mille Miglia winner, Martini Racing Porsches, Shell and the Monte-Carlo Mini, and each has a novel patinated appearance together with a high-gloss finish that should protect them against years of dishwasher cleaning.
They’re £10 each and come in a plain white gift box – saving you the bother of wrapping it, if you don’t want to.
-
5. A subscription to Classic & Sports Car magazine
Of course, we had to mention this, but we’re sure you’ll forgive us – after all, this is the gift that keeps on giving because it’s a present that lasts all year.
And because it’s Father’s Day we have a special offer for readers in the UK and US – get 60% off a bundle subscription to Classic & Sports Car plus one extra issue free.

-
6. Helmet pendant light (£199)
How’s this for a bright idea? Made to Last has begun transforming retro motorcycle helmets into brilliant pendant lights, perfect for your dad’s home office or garage.
Available in a variety of styles, each dimmable light is handmade at the firm’s Derbyshire studio and comes with an Edison-style LED filament bulb.
-
7. Bond Cars: The Definitive History (£20)
If your dad is a 007 fan who’s eagerly awaiting the release of No Time to Die, maybe this is the perfect Father’s Day gift.
The brilliantly written, entertaining text is infused with effortless knowledge and the author has spoken not only to producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, plus long-serving special-effects supervisor Chris Corbould and Bond himself, Daniel Craig, but also to the men and women on the ground who were actually designing and building the machines. Even background cars are covered.
It would look like great value at just £20 even if it was a lightweight skirt around the history of the cult of the Bond car. It is anything but. Unmissable if you’re a fan, intriguing even if you’ve little more than a passing interest.
-
8. Hurtle Auto Print Works (from £12.50)
If you turn to the ‘Our Classic’ pages of C&SC, you’ll see the fine work of James Leddy who creates the illustrations of the team’s classic cars – and a stylish artwork of your dad’s pride and joy would make a thoughtful gift.
All Leddy’s stock artworks can be modified, or you may want to commission a brand-new artwork for your dad.
You can also put several cars on one large print to create a unique history of all the cars he has owned. The options are endless.
-
9. Silverstone Distillery gin and vodka (£40 each)
If you don’t recognise the name Silverstone Distillery, that’s because the brand launched last year, mid-pandemic. Of course, you will know the name because the firm is based in the Northamptonshire village of Silverstone and it is the region’s heritage that the company draws on for its inaugural gin and vodka, priced at £40 for a 70cl bottle.
It must be said they’re rather attractive bottles, white for the gin and black for the vodka, but it’s what inside that counts. The Heritage No1 Oak Rested Gin definitely delivers on its arboreal promise. You might more readily associate oaky tones with whiskies, but here it’s soft and warm, with a real depth of flavour.
Meanwhile the Heritage No2 Smoked Wild Apple Vodka is a triumph, the apple coming through strongly but without being too sweet and, pleasingly for our palette, the smokiness a subtle accompaniment. Both spirits retained their distinctive flavours once mixers were added, too.
All you now need to work out is whether your dad will prefer vodka or gin.
-
10. Chapman keyring (£25)
If you fancy treating dad to some leather accessories for his post-pandemic travels, British brand Chapman might be able to help.
Now, there’s no getting away from the fact that some of the – admittedly very lovely – items from this manufacturer are pretty pricey, such as the Ultimate Weekender holdall (£2350) and the washbag (£350), but we rather like the super-smart leather keyrings that are £25, that are available in eight colours including Navy, Chocolate Brown, Burnt Orange and Tan, and can be embossed with a name, initials or crest.
So every time he turns the key in his classic, he thinks of you.
-
11. Reflection prints (from £60)
Here’s something a bit different for dad… C&SC’s super-talented photographer Olgun Kordal has developed a line of art prints using a spectacular new technique.
The series features some gorgeous classic car studies in dazzling colours, including the Lamborghini Countach, Lancia D24, Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster and Ferrari 365GTB/4, and he welcomes private commissions via Instagram (@carsandcolour), too.
Beautifully printed on Fuji Fine Art Photo Rag Paper, the prints come with a white border and are available in three sizes: 18x18in (£60), 24x24in (£75) and 30x30in (£100).
-
12. Autoglym Anti-Bacterial Multi-Surface Sanitiser (£6.50)
Cleanliness has never been more important, and automotive firms are rightly responding to that need.
Autoglym has launched its new Anti-Bacterial Multi-Surface Sanitiser, a spray that claims to kill 99.99% of germs and is safe to use on all washable surfaces in a classic car.
The spray conforms to all relevant European standards, smells pleasant and is priced at £6.50 for 500ml – ideal for keeping a car germ-free inside and out.
-
13. Secret Fords (£39.95)
This is a cracker of a book that we loved, so perhaps your father will, too?
The first of two volumes begins by going through the birth of a prototype at Ghia and setting the scene for the Blue Oval under Henry Ford II at the start of the 1970s. After looking into the AVO department and the various suggestions for the stillborn Capri replacement, succeeding chapters deal with the gestations of the Mk2 and Mk3 Escorts, Fiesta, Sierra, Mk2 Granada and Scorpio. Seeing how differently some of the most familiar shapes on British roads could have turned out is endlessly entertaining.
Behind-the-scenes happy snaps from the studio, the workshop and out during testing, all add to the sense that you are getting a private tour around a hidden part of Ford history that’s usually unavailable to members of the public.
This might lead you to think that you need to be a Blue Oval fanatic (or a committed child of the ’80s) to enjoy the book to the full, but that’s far from the case – though if you do tick either of those boxes, it’s likely to be unmissable.
-
14. Wriggly Monkey beer (from £11)
Why not treat your dad and raise a glass to him at the same time? There is plenty of choice from the team at the award-winning, Bicester Heritage-based Wriggly Monkey brewery.
Choose between the Gullwing lager, Full Tilt amber ale, Super Sports very pale ale, Charabanc ruby ale, Ambassador India Pale Ale and more.
-
15. Lego Aston Martin DB5 (£129.99)
You’re never too old for Lego, right? And while there are a great many classic cars available in brick form – Ferrari F40, Ford Mustang Fastback and more – we love this 007 Aston Martin DB5.
With more than 1200 pieces, the finished model is 13in long and features many of the famous gadgets of the James Bond Goldfinger movie legend.
Highlights include a working ejector seat, a pull-back gearstick to reveal machine guns in the wings, revolving registration plates, a bulletproof rear screen and extendable wheel-mounted tyre scythes.
And this has proved a popular set, so stocks are getting low – if you want it, don’t delay!
-
16. C&SC’s Greatest Hits special editions (from £10)
We’ve now published seven fantastic Greatest Hits publications, all of which are packed with C&SC content from the last decade on a given theme.
With around 200 glossy pages full of fabulous photos and absorbing stories, they look and feel as good as they are to read, making them coffee-table collectors’ items.
And there’s something for everyone, with one dedicated to American Classics, another to Jaguars, Porsches having their chance in the limelight, our Aston Martin special, one on the three-pointed stars of Mercedes-Benz and another on the prancing horses of Ferrari, and finally our Greatest Hits celebration of supercars.
-
17. Clarke CTJ1250AB 1.25 Tonne Aluminium Trolley Jack (£116.39)
Every workshop needs a trusty jack, and Clarke’s latest lightweight aluminium racing version is exactly that.
It’s designed to be used on lower classics and slides under chassis rails with ease. The lifting pad, meanwhile, is sheathed in rubber to prevent damage to the underside of dad’s classic car.
The whole unit tips the scales at 11.65kg, which, combined with the useful handles on each side, makes lifting and moving it a breeze. It’s rated to 1.25 tonnes, enough for most small-to-medium classics, while the hard-wearing metal castors are positioned wide at each corner, making for a secure lifting platform.
Buy the Clarke CTJ1250AB 1.25 Tonne Aluminium Trolley Jack here
-
18. Scalextric Gulf Racing set (£99.99)
We’re all big kids at heart, right? And the Gulf Racing livery is as evocative as they come.
This Scalextric set should bring back a few memories as you and your dad recreate the 1969 24 Hours of Le Mans (although given that the two included cars are a GT and an LMP, you might need to use your imagination).
You get more than 4.8m of track and can create four different track layouts – and if you want to make it more authentic, you could always add the standalone Ford GT40 race car twin pack (£85.99).
-
19. Lego Audi Sport quattro S1 (£17.99)
More Lego? Sorry, click on if you and your dad are not fans, but we most definitely are! If the Bond Aston DB5 a few slides earlier is a little rich for your budget, then how about letting your father play Walter Röhrl on the kitchen table with this fantastic Sport quattro S1?
Few competition machines better suit being modelled in brickwork than the angular Audi, and at less than £20 it’s perfect for any rally fan.
The 500-piece set, part of the Lego Speed Champions series, even comes with a choice of wheels, a driver/mechanic and a set of spotlamps for those night-time stages…
-
20. Gunson Twin Head Cleaning Brush (£3.62)
Gunson has paired a Nylon-bristled brush, for cleaning dials and switches, with a three-pronged microfibre wand, useful for vents and louvred panels, making this a very useful and very affordable Father’s Day present.
We found the brush did a fine job and the results were impressive – but the microfibre ends were too big for the style of vents on our classic. Still, for just £3.62 it’s a handy tool to have and cheap to replace.
-
21. Bullitt: The Cars and People Behind Steve McQueen (£35)
You may feel there have been enough books, films and TV programmes about Steve McQueen, and you’d probably be right. Yet there is much in this book that is fresh, particularly for fans of the unforgettable car chase in the 1968 movie Bullitt.
Right from the endpapers, a road map of San Francisco detailing the route taken in the chase, you are drawn into fascinating detail of how the whole thing was done: the stunt drivers, the hitches, how the final fiery end-shot nearly went wrong, and how much of it McQueen did himself, plus his relationship with director Peter Yates, the other actors and the cameramen. We learn how racer Max Balchowsky prepared the Mustangs and the Dodge Chargers that were used, and what really happened to them afterwards.
Many of the 300 pictures in the book were taken during filming in San Francisco. As soon as we finished reading it we had to sit down and watch the film for the umpteenth time, but now with new eyes.
-
22. Classic car cookie cutter (£4)
If your dad loves baking as much as he loves classic cars, this might be the perfect Father’s Day gift.
And if you like the sound of car-shaped biscuits and an MGB doesn’t hit the mark, the seller has a large range of classic-car cutters, so you can reproduce in baked-good form Triumphs 2000, Dolomite or TR7, a Caddie, a Landie, a Jaguar XK120, a Peugeot 205, a Renault 4, an Austin A30, a Rover P6, a Vauxhall Viva, an MG Metro 6R4… The impressive list goes on!
-
23. Foldable work lamp (£42.14)
A good work light should be near the top of your list of garage tools – and if your dad is in need of one, we think this rechargeable newcomer from Laser is an excellent option.
Folding to just 12cm long, the lightweight LED unit works as a floodlight or a torch and is ideal for the workshop because it can be stuck to the car by the magnets in its stand or hung from its hook, then angled to shine light on your chosen area.
Usefully, it’s also waterproof and offers multiple brightness settings with a 370 lumens maximum, and up to five hours’ use per charge of its integrated 2000mAh lithium-ion battery, which charges in three hours using the USB cable supplied.
At £42.14 it isn’t cheap, but it’s well made and makes a handy addition to any home mechanic’s garage.
-
24. OSLA Apparel T-shirt (from £24)
You can’t go wrong with a cool classic car T-shirt, can you? And appropriately for a Father’s Day gift, this firm was born from a car-loving family.
The people behind OSLA Apparel established the company to address the fact that their children were fast inheriting their passion for classics, but that kids’ clothing ranges didn’t seem to cater for their shared love. But the range has now expanded with some cool offerings for adults as well – all featuring illustrations of ‘family favourite’ classic vehicles. Among the existing range is a Porsche 911, Mini Cooper, Land-Rover Series II (above), Fiat 500 and Ferrari F40, with more being added regularly. Men’s T-shirts are priced from £24 – hoodies and more are available, too.
All garments are printed on 100% organic material, delivered in plastic-free packaging. If you’re really after something special, then OSLA Apparel will customise any of the designs for you, changing vehicle colours and registration numbers to suit your requirements.
-
25. Lucas cufflinks (£39)
We’re not usually fans of novelty cufflinks, but these are ideal if you think your father will like the idea of discreetly promoting the late lamented British car industry. Featuring the original Lucas crest of a proud lion, they are the sort of thing that will only be spotted by a fellow fan of the ‘Prince of Darkness’.
Made from 925 Silver for Holden Vintage & Classic by HENRYKA, they would make an unusual Father’s Day gift for fans of British classics.
-
26. CTEK MXS 5.0 Fully Automatic Battery Charger (£68.98)
Here’s something many classic car owners will need – is your dad one of them? CTEK’s MSX 5.0 battery charger is suited to lead-acid batteries from 1.2-110Ah and has automatic temperature compensation for effective charging even in chilly conditions.
It also runs diagnostics to assess the condition of the battery, and has an automatic desulphation programme plus a reconditioning function for rescuing fully discharged batteries.
Our test car had suffered long-term battery woes, but has been transformed – spinning over faster and apparently retaining charge more readily following a couple of months hooked up to the MSX 5.0.
-
27. Heel tread socks (from £6.87)
Yes, we know buying dad socks for Father’s Day sounds like a cop-out, but these are a little different.
Heel Tread’s stylish range pays tribute to iconic classic cars such as the Audi quattro, Mercedes-Benz 300SL ‘Gullwing’, E30 BMW and Porsche RSR.
Or how about a Miura, a GTO or a Stratos, a McLaren F1, a DB5, an E-type or a Defender? Or maybe a Bullitt or Eleanor Mustang, Lotus 49, Ferrari F40, Peugeot 205 T16 or Mazda 787B (pictured)? You get the idea. Low socks are £6.87, standard socks £8.59.
-
28. Moto-Lita Mark Four (from £164)
Nothing smartens a classic car’s interior like a new steering wheel, and British firm Moto-Lita has been making some of the best since the 1960s.
We’re particular fans of the classy three-spoked Mark Four, which is available in four sizes ranging from 12in to 15in and clad in a variety of materials including perforated leather, suede and Alcantara.
-
29. REVS Garagistas card game (£6)
We’re sure many of you have played automotive card trading games with your dad, so this Father’s Day why not update his cards with this new offering.
You might remember the fantastic online REVS events in 2020 and 2021 that helped so many through lockdown, and now REVS has teamed up with Bonhams MPH and automotive publishers narrativebooks.net to produce a Garagistas version of this much-loved card game.
What’s more, this is not a random selection of cars, many belong to those in the REVS online community.
-
30. Mariclaro messenger bag (from C$129)
Old cars that can no longer be driven can still have a purpose, as Mariclaro’s range of wonderfully idiosyncratic bags proves.
All are hand-crafted from reclaimed materials from old cars – seat leather, belts and buckles and more – and as well as looking great, they’re also supremely practical, with accessory pockets, zippered compartments and adjustable straps.
Messenger bags start at $129 (Canadian dollars), but there’s a range of different styles and different prices, and if you're only after a smaller gift you should check out the range of wallets and passport holders.
-
31. Hot Wheels Team Transport (£17.99)
Period transporters have an enduring appeal, and Hot Wheels has picked up on this for this subset of its ‘Car Culture’ series.
Our favourites are the Japanese cars – this Datsun Fairlady Z or a Nissan Skyline HT 2000GT-R on a Sakura Sprinter, or a ’71 Datsun S10 on a Fleet Flyer – but others include Jaguar E-type Lightweight, Mercedes-Benz 300SL, Porsche 356 and Fords Mustang, Galaxie and Torino, all on suitable haulers.
-
32. Diamondbrite Interior Cleaner (£4.95)
Why not help your father bring his classic car’s interior back to best.
Just screw in the spray attachment provided, grab a cloth and you’re set. Tested on vinyl upholstery, it went on easily and did a fine job, with no unpleasant smell, lifting both older and more recent stains.
It comes as part of Diamondbrite’s Car Care Starter Pack (£29.95), or you can buy it individually at a very reasonable £4.95 for 500ml.
-
33. Toyota Celica T-shirt (£12)
Rally fans will love this simple yet effective design that honours the awesome Group A Toyota Celica and could be the wardrobe update your dad needs. What’s more, it is ethically made using 100% organic cotton.
Indeed, Final Tenth has a range of fantastic rally-inspired T-shirts, as well as stickers, mugs, pencils and more, so you’ve plenty to pick from.
-
34. K&Y Fob (€50)
Porsche enthusiast and 356 owner Davide has been quietly producing his customised key fobs for a few years now, garnering a dedicated following from those in the know.
Made from genuine leather and available in a wide variety of colours, each fob is customisable with your own chosen phrase. A nod to the racing Porsches of years gone by, ‘La chiave va a sinistra’ or ‘key is on the left’ is our pick.
-
35. Pininfarina 90 Anni (€90)
The world was hardly crying out for another book on Pininfarina, but this celebration of the firm’s 90th birthday is a joy. Across 500 pages it records 632 different models, from styling studies to racers and production models. The text, in Italian and English, is lightweight, but it’s unlikely to be a book that you read from cover-to-cover in one sitting.
Far better to dip in and get lost in the imagery, chosen by Pininfarina SpA president Paolo Pininfarina, with particular delights being cars you didn’t know before such as the Pininfarina VW Beetle, Zündapp 750 Coupé or Fiat Cinqucento pick-up.
-
36. Custom Velvet Cushions (£55)
Immortalise your father’s beloved classic car by having its image laser-engraved on a polyester velvet cushion. Simply send a suitable photograph via NV London Calcutta’s website and the firm will endeavour to complete your order within one working day.
Cushions are available in 12 colours and a personalised message can also be added. Each pillow costs £55, and it’s possible to upgrade to a feather filling for £2.50.
-
37. Sealey SPB160W Power Pack (£203.94)
This is a bit more pricey, but it is useful if your dad is unlucky enough to have a garage without electricity – it is also ideal to keep in the boot of your classic. It offers a 230V AC output – a traditional three-pin plug – along with two 12V DC ports, plus standard USB, QC3.0 and Type-C.
It weighs 1.2kg, and the lithium-ion battery’s 31,200mAh capacity is mightier than most powerbanks, though it takes a while to recharge.
-
38. Alcosense Lite 2 (£44.99)
Well, you can’t be too careful, can you? So this might not be the most exciting Father’s Day gift, but it could be a very useful one.
An entry-level digital breathalyser, it analyses the amount of alcohol on your breath before telling you whether you are above or below the legal drink-drive limit – and by how much.
The firm claims accuracy of +/-0.2%BAC, but presents the information in increments of 0.1mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood – 0.8 being the limit in England. We’ve tested it – the things we do for this job, etc – and it worked exactly as expected.
-
39. London Motor Show print (from £20)
For something a little different and rather stylish for dad’s garage or home office wall (or whichever wall he prefers!) how about this?
Understated and evocative, this range of throwback motor show prints from the London Transport Museum offers ’30s charm, coachbuilt sophistication and fantastic font selection in equal measure.
-
40. A Race with Love and Death: The Story of Richard Seaman (£20)
The combination of Richards Williams and Seaman was always going to have ‘Motoring Book of the Year’ nominee all over it. And so it proved.
The story is expertly told and crafted by Williams, with no need for hyperbole, and long overdue. And unlike many racing books, it is very well priced. Prior knowledge of Britain’s most overlooked racing greats is not required, nor an interest in motorsport as such. Highly recommended.
-
41. Grippaz gloves (£10.99 for 50)
At around £10 for 50 (prices vary), the premium-quality Grippaz gloves are great value – and having used them, we think they’re also a great product.
The silicone- and latex-free nitrile gloves don’t tear easily, but the key for us is the grip offered by the ‘fish scale’ pattern.
Even when changing coolant, these gloves offered a good amount of traction and we weren’t constantly swapping for a new pair.
-
42. Tamiya Audi V8 Touring Car (from £128.95)
Do you think dad will love this recently released radio-controlled model assembly kit from Tamiya?
A small-scale replica of the Audi V8 in which Frank Biela secured the 1991 DTM crown, it has a polycarbonate body, fantastic silver-rimmed, gold-spoked tyres and even four-wheel double-wishbone suspension.
It’s priced at £128.95 for the kit without radio, battery or charger, or from £189.99 all in.
-
43. Curb T-shirts (from $29.99)
Curb produces an inspired range of T-shirts including ‘The Manual Gearbox Preservation Society’: designs include a TMGPS logo printed on the front and a large logo on the rear of a black T-shirt. Other options include a transaxle graphic with yellow type on grey or ‘black heather’.
T-shirts are priced at $29.99, hoodies $59, plus there’s a large range of automobilia, from travel coffee mugs to keyrings.
-
44. Clarke Tool Chest/Cabinet Combo (£203.98)
If your dad has a garage then he’ll either have one of these or want one.
Well priced at only a smidgeon over £200, it’s the best way to keep tools organised, safe and secure, and probably the most practical use of space, too.
For some reason red is always best for tool cabinets and chests, and this particular set from Clarke has 13 drawers and a spacious cabinet underneath. And it’s on wheels, so you can take it to either end of the car with you.
-
45. Sensorist (from €185)
Your old man might claim he can check the humidity in a garage using nothing but a tea towel and some bath salts, but the rusted chassis on his Mk1 Golf suggests otherwise.
For a more reliable solution this Father’s Day, stick this sensor kit in his garage: it’ll take humidity readings and direct them via the bundled gateway to his smartphone or computer – so he will always know whether his leather is living its best life.
-
46. Playforever Turbo (£27.80)
One of our favourite ranges in the super-cool Playforever toybox is the ‘Turbo’. Formula One in the ’80s was all about big wings, fat slick tyres and engines that belched flames as well as most of their mechanical innards on a regular basis, and this line-up celebrates that in all its brightly coloured glory.
Although it’s officially a ‘toy’, this stylish design wouldn’t look out of place on your dad’s favourite shelf amongst all his other big boys’ toys. Is that Father’s Day sorted?
-
47. John Haynes: The man behind the manuals (£20)
You’ve probably given and received many Haynes manuals over the years, but how about a biography on ‘The man behind the manuals’. John Haynes passing away in 2019 and lived a fascinating life.
This book is an enjoyable and thoroughly engaging read, tracing Haynes’ life from childhood in what is now Sri Lanka through schools and the RAF via parties and, of course, a number of cars, the taking apart of which became his lifelong passion and today is his world-famous legacy.
-
48. Skära gloss-enhancing polish (£12)
Need a Father’s Day present for someone that loves a well-polished classic car but lacks the time or patience?
This gloss polish is easy to use and quick from application to grit-free shine, it also cleans as it works – a boon for less meticulous car washers. Good bottle design means the clumsy among us can knock it over without spillage, and you don’t end up with too much splattered on your pad.
Best of all, you don’t have to reach for trim gel every time it thinks about touching any plastics. At £12 for 500ml it’s good value, and 100ml testers are available for a fiver.

Eight bright LEDs offer 300 lumens of output and a 120º spread of light, in addition to a 1W LED directional torch. And as an extra bonus, the 2.2Ahr lithium-ion battery also powers a microUSB port for charging devices.

50. Official Citroën memorabilia (from €2)
Does your dad love the Double Chevron? You’ve come to the right place this Father’s Day, then, because when Citroën celebrated its 100th birthday in 2019 it launched a huge range of merchandise. And now as well as the centenary collection, there’s even more for the discerning Citroën owner.
We’re talking Citroën Monopoly (available in English, French, German and Italian), playing cards, top trumps, flip-flops, Méhari keyrings, a Méhari umbrella, a Méhari ice cube tray, enamel mugs, cookie cutters, caps, woolly hats, beach chairs, belts, kids’ dining sets, artwork, plaques, socks, scarves, model cars, bags and candles. Yes, candles.
And at a range of price points, there’s something for every budget.
-
51. Napier-Railton T-shirt (£14.99)
Has your dad loved watching the Secrets of the Transport Museum TV show that’s been on the Yesterday channel recently? The behind-the-scenes insights into the workings of Brooklands Museum have certainly brought the place to life.
The magnificent Napier-Railton is the museum’s star attraction and you can celebrate it with this T-shirt.
-
52. Playmobil classic Volkswagens (from £39.99)
Is dad a fan of Wolfsburg classics? One of these might do the trick this Father’s Day, then.
These new releases from Playmobil of a VW Beetle and a classic campervan are simple to assemble and come with cool kit, such as suitcases, a sandcastle and a surfboard. These would look right at home on a shelf or desk, but we know that this brand always produces quality items, so they’ll also withstand exuberant play – well, we are all just big kids at heart.
The Beetle is £39.99 and the camper is £49.99 (including free shipping).
-
53. Rear View Prints (from £18.99)
There’s something for everyone to hang on their wall – and at a range of prices – in Rear View Prints’ online shop.
From posters celebrating famous race tracks and racing drivers, to prints of road cars and classic film-star cars, you’re spoilt for choice, and the deceptively simple design is charming. The Group B tribute and GT40 vs 330P3 caught our eye, but whatever your father’s automotive tastes, there’s sure to be something he will want. You can even get his beloved classic immortalised in a print or on a T-shirt.
-
54. Sparco Vintage Classic Race Suit (£424.80)
With motorsport back, does your dad need to refresh his kit?
This retro race suit from Sparco is sure to do the job. It’s FIA-approved, while a slot on the chest is ideal for storing your aviators – perfect for channelling your inner James Hunt, even if you’re just cycling to the Post Office.
-
55. Personalised Haynes manual (£35)
We suspect your dad probably already has stacks of Haynes manuals for cars he owns or used to own, but does he have one just for him?
Pick from one of the vast range of 210 available models then customise it by uploading your own cover image and text.
-
56. Bonnet art (from £650)
This is not cheap, but if your dad already has the ‘conventional’ art box ticked, how about bonnet art?
Pick from six classic liveries – including Gulf, Jägermeister, Martini and Rothmans – and this design will be produced on a Porsche G-series bonnet in a professional, matt wrap, before a Porsche badge is added. At 1195mm wide and 1290mm high you’ll need a bit of space and with a lead time of two-three weeks, this can’t be a last-minute gift, but it is pretty cool. Bespoke items are available, too.
-
57. Mamod Brookland Tourer (£272.50)
Today’s throwaway culture can be quite demoralising, but has there ever been a better antidote than a Mamod steam engine? And if dad is blown away by this Father’s Day gift, he might even let you play, too.
This fully built steam-powered Brookland Tourer is a brilliant riff on the traction engines of yesteryear and is lots of fun.
-
58. Bilt Hamber Double Speed-Wax (£14.95)
Does your dad love keeping his classic car pristine? How about this…
Marrying great value with impressive performance, this £14.95 set includes a 250ml tin of wax, a foam applicator and a microfibre cloth.
The wax is easy to apply and remove, with a little going a long way. It leaves a beautiful shine and a hardwearing layer that should last months; rain still beads weeks after application. It is hard to beat for the price.
The only question is whether or not you promise to clean his car for him as part of your Father’s Day gift…
-
59. Suixtil Motor Racing Beanie (£65)
Granted, £65 might seem steep for what is essentially a woolly hat, but this is no ordinary beanie: this a racing beanie, made by Suixtil – suppliers to the likes of Formula One legend Juan Manuel Fangio in the 1950s and ’60s.
Made from soft cashmere and lambswool, it has flaps to keep dad’s ears warm and comes with those all-important driving goggles printed on the noggin – less effective than the real thing, but much easier to remember.
-
60. Rapstrap (from £3)
The cable tie ranks near jubilee clips and a big hammer in terms of usefulness to classic car owners, but it isn’t perfect.
Enter the Rapstrap. Once tied, it can be cut and tied again, getting several uses from one strap and hugely reducing waste. The soft rubber is resistant to fuels and oils, grips well and has plenty of stretch. Plus, some items in the range are biodegradable, too.
Packs start from around £3.
-
61. Automobilist posters (from £26.81)
There are car posters and then there are car posters – and we rather like these ones from Automobilist. Perfect for dad’s home office or workshop, perhaps?
There’s a wide range of choice, with everything from a Lancia Stratos taking on Rallye Sanremo to a Porsche 906 print commemorating the 1967 Japanese Grand Prix to a retro James Hunt poster and a limited-edition Ferrari 412P design.
And with prices starting at under £30, they’re not bank-balance busters, either.
-
62. T-Lab Paddock Hill T-shirt (£29)
Is your dear old dad still rocking that oil-stained T-shirt he bought at the British Grand Prix in ’72? We salute his devotion to sustainability but, in the interests of cleanliness, it might be time for an upgrade.
This T-shirt gives a subtle nod to the famous first corner at Brands Hatch, without screaming “all modern circuits are rubbish and I’ve drawn better layouts than Hermann Tilke on a napkin after five pints”.
A long-sleeved version is available for £32.
-
63. Porsche Classic Communication Management (£1390.01)
Yes, this is not a cheap Father’s Day gift, but it is impressive.
You don’t have to be a Porsche owner to appreciate its classic department’s period-looking radio upgrades – but you’ll want to be an owner to buy one. Or at least, dad will need one if you’re buying for him.
The pricey units subtly bring modern tech including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to classic Porsches, which also means there is no need for any ugly phone holders on the windscreen. Nor will there be some bright and blinking LED screen making the place look untidy.
-
64. Suixtil Grand Prix Driving Gloves (£85)
Can you see your father in these?
These Suixtil driving gloves make a fine addition to any driving ensemble: based on ’50s designs, they’re crafted from lamb’s leather and a knitted upper, with a seamless palm for ultimate comfort as one grips the wheel.
For those who don’t own a classic? They’re the perfect thing to wear while caressing other people’s cars at a concours event, before being politely asked to leave – sans gloves.
Don’t like wrapping? Add a gift box for £5 and you’re done.
