Petrolheads the world over were saddened to learn of Burt Reynolds’ death on 6 September 2018, at the age of 82.

Many fondly remember him from his much-loved portrayal of Bo Darville (‘Bandit’) in the 1977 film Smokey and the Bandit, and a car that commemorates that role is one of four Reynolds cars going under the hammer in a few days.

The auction in question is Barrett-Jackson’s Las Vegas Sale on Saturday 29 September – and all are being offered with no reserve.

This lot is one for Smokey and the Bandit fans!

Known as the ‘Black Bandit’, this car (above) was created under Reynolds’ direction to be as true to the Smokey and the Bandit car as possible.

While originality was key to this 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am ‘Bandit’ recreation, it benefits from a few additions, including new air-conditioning items and a bespoke automatic gearbox.

Power comes from a recently rebuilt 400cu in V8 with new Butler Performance components.

This Firebird is a recreation of that in the film Hooper – and is being sold with no reserve

And if this next car looks familiar, it's because it is another ’78 Pontiac Firebird – and another film recreation.

This time paying tribute to the 1978 film Hooper, this Firebird Formula was another of Reynolds’ personal cars.

In eye-catching red with a black interior, again it has burbly eight-cylinder power, plus a three-speed automatic transmission.

So, can you guess what’s next?

This ’84 Firebird was used to promote Reynolds' USFL team

That’s right, it’s yet another Pontiac Firebird! Although this one is from 1984 and doesn’t have any silver-screen connections – this is one for sports fans.

It was used by Reynolds to promote his United States Football League (USFL) team, the Tampa Bay Bandits, and remained in the actor’s collection until his death.

Recently restored, it carries Reynolds’ autograph and that of his friend, the late singer Jerry Reed, and there’s a five-litre V8 under the bonnet.

This Cannonball Run-inspired pickup could be yours...

Finally, it's another film replica: a 1987 Chevrolet R30 Pickup that's a replica of the pace truck in Reynolds' 1981 film The Cannonball Run.

Granted, this isn’t traditional classic car auction fare, but with its custom two-tone paint job and larger-than-life presence, it’s sure to stand out at Saturday’s Las Vegas sale.
