| 31 Oct 2013

A selection of cars from the estate of John 'Noddy' Coombs is to under the hammer in London on 1 December.

The Bonhams sale – which will also feature the Dick Skipworth Ecurie Ecosse collection – will sell four cars from the collection of the paddock great and Jaguar dealer who nurtured the career of Sir Jackie Stewart and others.

They include two of his favourite sports cars, a 1938 BMW 328 (main image, estimate £400-500,000) and a 1952 Frazer Nash Targa Florio (above, £250-300k).

The other Coombs cars to be sold are a 1980s Mini Cooper that he used as a runabout during his retirement in Monaco (£3-5000), and a 1960s Jaguar Mk2 3.8 that was bought as a candidate to revive the famous 'Coombs Mk2' (£5-8k).

Bonhams' James Knight said: “Over the past 30 years, I came to count John a friend as well as a client. It is a privilege for us all at Bonhams to handle his motor cars. The BMW 328 is in stunning condition and the Frazer Nash comes with wonderful provenance having been purchased new by Briggs Cunningham and raced at Sebring.”
