Historic Lea-Francis returns to Brooklands

| 17 Jun 2012

An historic Lea-Francis 12hp Sports with Brooklands history is to be sold at the Surrey Speedbowl.

The car, chassis 52, the first 12hp Sports produced, was owned by Lea-Francis MD Charles Follett and fitted with a specially commissioned two-seat/dickey body from the Carlton Carriage Co.

With the screen and wings removed, it was raced to victory by Follett in the Second August Long Handicap at an average lap time of 90.98mph.

The car is said to be highly original apart from its engine which was replaced with a 14hp unit when a garage working for a later owner left it outside and a severe frost cracked the block.

It is expected to make £38-46,000 when it comes up for sale with Historics on 1 September.
