Italian metal makes its way to Beaulieu

| 24 May 2012

Celebrating its second year, Simply Italian day at Beaulieu attracted more than 200 vehicles from manufacturers such as Fiat, Lancia, Ferrari, Maserati and Alfa Romeo.

Throughout the day visitors were able to vote for their favorite cars in the People’s Choice Awards.
First place went to a dark grey Maserati Merak, which is owned by Robin Hibberd, from the Isle of Wight. Hibberd has owned the car for just four months and was presented with a trophy by Beaulieu’s commercial director Stephen Munn.

Runner up prize was awarded to David Roots, from Somerset, for his ‘Bitsurini.’ A one-off creation, the car comprises of front bodywork in the style of a 1936 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900A and the engine from 1969 1750 GTV.
Meanwhile, two more prizes were awarded to cars occupying opposite ends of the Italian-automotive spectrum – a 4x4 Fiat Panda in white and one of only 250 Lamborghini Gallardo 550 Balbonis, which were built to mark the retirement of Lamborghini’s flamboyant chief test driver, Valentino Balboni.

The next Simply Italian day will take place in on 12 May 2013.
