Young classic car fans vote for their Best in Show

Chris Evans’ CarFest North gave youngsters the chance to vote for their car of the event held on 8-9 September.

Aged 8-14, the judges chose from nominations including a Jaguar E-type, a Reliant Sabre, a Caterham Superlight, an Austin-Healey 3000 MkIII and a Moskvich 427 station wagon.

It was Graham Durber’s recently restored 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190SL that took the victory, though, with one judge saying: “This car was the one that we all agreed we wanted our dad to have in the garage at home.”

Classic insurance specialist Hagerty International organised the event to help encourage interest in classics from an early age.

MD Angus Forsyth said: “We need to do all we can to encourage children to see, feel and learn a little about classic cars. Our Junior Judges programme gives them the opportunity to get up close with these fabulous vehicles and we hope this ignites their interest.”
