Historic touring car championship renamed for 2013

The JD Classics Challenge series will be renamed the Historic Touring Car Challenge for the 2013 season that kicks off at the Donington Historic Festival from 3-5 May.

The championship is open to Groups 1, 2 and A Touring Cars covering racers that competed in the British and European Championships from 1972-’85 as well as pre-’66 Group 5 cars.

In the past the championship has attracted TWR Jaguar XJ-S, BMW 528, Alfa GTV6, Audi Coupé, Ford Sierra XR4i, Triumph Dolomite Sprint, BMW 3.0 CSL, Jaguar XJ 12C and Ford Capri.

Talking about the 45-minute opening race Duncan Wiltshire of Motor Racing Legends, which organises the championship, said: “This event is set to be bigger than ever this year and has really cemented its place as the season-opening meeting for most people.”

The series will also appear at the Masters Festival (Brands Hatch, 25-27 May) as two 40 minute-races. One being held on the full GP circuit, while the other takes place on the Indy circuit.

The final events will take place at the Spa Six Hours Meeting (20-22 September) in Belgium and the Algarve Classic Festival (18-21 October) in Portugal.
