A lovely XK120 has topped Barons’ Jaguar Heritage auction that was held at Sandown Park on the 29 May.
The 1950s sports car had been imported from the US and sold for £45,000. Unsurprisingly, the marque also filled the next two slots with a unique single-chain head 1968 3.6 Mk2 coming second – £35,000 – and a 1973 S3 E-type going for £29,000.
This 1965 Bull Ford Cortina MK1 (£29,000) and a left-hand-drive 1986 Rolls-Royce Corniche convertible (£24,500) took up fourth and fifth place.
On a day when the sales rate dropped below 50% there were a number of tempting lots that failed to sell including a 1967 Mk2 Jag, a Austin Metropolitan and numerous E-types.
But this meant there were bargains to be had such as an MOT-free – although apparently needing little done – XJRS Le Mans Edition ‘No.76 of 100’ that sold for £1400, or another XJ-S (above), this time a 5.3-litre V12, which had covered only 69,000 miles documented and sold for £2100.
A MkX 3.8 auto’ saloon offered a more regal entry into big cat ownership and looked like a steal selling for £4000 – around £1000 below its lower estimate.
