Sharknose Collection catches the eye at BMW Car Club's Southern Concours

The BMW Car Club's new 'Sharknose Collection' was the centrepiece of its annual Southern Concours, with an impressive array of slant-grilled models delighting attendees.

Described as an "umbrella section" within the wider Club, the Sharknose Collection is a themed grouping of Beemers from the 1960s, '70s and '80s, all of which have a pronounced, forward-facing nose.

The BMW Car Club launched the concept at the Concours, which took place at Sherborne Castle in Dorset on Sunday. Among the inaugural entrants were Tony Wilkes' unique Sierra Beige 3.0 Si – one of the very last made in January 1977 – and Richard Baxter’s stunning and unrestored CSiL.

The top Concours honours went to Dan Wood for his beautiful 2002 540i AC Schnitzer, while Stuart and Elizabeth Blount won the popular vote in the Show and Shine category with their immaculate M535.

Another winner was Antony Birchell, whose beautiful Sahara Beige 2002 won its class; he inherited the car from his grandmother and has restored it completely himself.

He said, “My Nan sold her Capri to buy the 2002 when it was new and she knew I’d always loved the car, so it was a real pleasure to discover it was coming my way. I was surprised and delighted to win a Concours award for the car today."

Another popular Concours entrant was Michael Pang with his stunning Henna Red 1987 M3.

“I’ve owned the car for six years", said Michael, "and even though it was in really nice condition when I bought it, I've been right through the car correcting small problems and had the engine rebuilt."

Even the inclement weather couldn’t dampen the spirits of attendees, with nearly 150 BMWs turning out for the annual gathering's 10th running. Scroll down for some pictures from the event.
