Classic & Sports Car – New 40th-birthday Lego BMW E30 M3 revealed

BMW’s E30 M3 celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2026 and a brand-new collaboration is fast approaching to mark this milestone.

Lego and the German car manufacturer have joined forces to create a new Lego Speed Champions version of this much-loved classic model.

The 358-piece set stands 17cm (6.7in) long and 7cm (2.8in) wide once completed.

This mini M3 costs £22.99 RRP and is available to pre-order now, here.

It will become available from 1 August, after which you can buy it via the Lego website, from BMW dealers across the UK and Europe and on the marque’s website, and also at Lego shops.

An E30 BMW M3 matching the anniversary model will be on display in Berlin this August

If you’re thinking the diminutive E30 BMW M3’s distinctive livery looks unfamiliar, you’d be right.

The design is unique to this project, developed for this anniversary kit by the BMW and Lego teams, drawing inspiration from the M3’s motorsport heritage.

The look isn’t quite that of Roberto Ravaglia claiming the 1987 World Touring Car Championship, nor Bernard Béguin and Jean-Jacques Lenne en route to victory on the Tour de Corse that same year, but it’s definitely eye-catching.

It will come alive in the form of a full-size M3 finished in the same livery, and both the model and this show car will be at the product’s launch in Berlin on 1 August.

The Lego minifigure’s T-shirt will also be available

The E30 M3 model has functioning wheels and is accompanied by a Lego minifigure wearing a BMW T-shirt, with a wig and a wrench.

And if you wanted to match your Lego driver, a scaled-up version of this T-shirt, made of organic cotton, will also be available to buy.

Need a hand piecing your creation together? The Lego Builder app has easy-to-follow instructions, and lets you rotate the view in 3D and zoom in and out.

This new set is suitable for anyone aged nine and up – and, we suspect, perfect for keen adults, too.

Perhaps a cool addition to a marque-enthusiast’s collection or a neat way to introduce children to the classic model, all without an eye-watering price-tag.
