The Mercedes-Benz W201 190E will make a competitive comeback next year, when German engineering company HWA fields two examples of its new Evo in the Nürburgring 24 Hours.
Roadgoing protoype versions of HWA’s Evo, inspired by Mercedes’ 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II classic car, completed their first demonstration laps this week, ahead of the event’s 2025 edition on 21-22 June.
Former Mercedes DTM drivers Klaus Ludwig and Roland Asch were behind the wheels of these prototypes, and will be involved in the development of the racers, which will run in the SP-X class for special vehicles at the German circuit’s round-the-clock contest next year.

Of course, the Mercedes-Benz 190 has a well-known competitive history.
Since the DTM Touring Car racing series was established in 1984, Mercedes has claimed 12 drivers’ championships, plus 14 team and 15 manufacturers’ titles, making it the DTM’s most successful car maker – much of this with HWA.
