A rare 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB with an alloy body and a 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 are among an incredible collection of forgotten cars discovered in a North Carolina garage.

The haul, uncovered by automative author and historian Tom Cotter for Hagerty's Barn Find Hunter video series, also includes a 1976 Triumph TR-6, a 1978 Morgan Plus 8 and a mid-1980s BMW 325ix.

The video, which you can watch below, shows Cotter's amazement as he enters the abandoned property only to be greeted with one of the finds of his life.

Writing on Hagerty's website, Cotter describes the moment when he first realised that the Ferrari was among the dust-covered vehicles.

"As my eyes adjust to the darkness…could it be? The silhouette in front of me could only be a Ferrari. A proper front-engine, 12-cylinder Ferrari at that. I carefully make my way across the dark, cluttered floor so I can identify the car head-on.

"It is a 1967 275 GTB, with headlight covers of immense size. The silver car is surrounded by spider webs and covered with decades worth of dust. And crickets."

The 275 has only 13,000 miles on the clock

The Ferrari is one of only a few dozen alloy models ever produced, and has just 13,000 miles on the clock. The Cobra is almost as rare, having been one of around 100 equipped with a 428-cubic-inch engine rather than a 427. The mice which Cotter finds in the glovebox don't generally come as standard, either.

The cars, which were all driven into the garage in 1991 and haven't been moved since, are estimated to be worth as much as $4 million (£2.8m). That could be a low estimate, though; similar Ferraris have sold in the $5-8m range on their own, albeit in better condition and in slightly different forms.
