It’s been with the same owner for 40 years and now this 1964 Aston Martin DB5 is going under the hammer at Monterey Car Week.
RM Sotheby’s and Aston Martin is bringing a new sale to the world-famous Californian gathering on 15 August with this single-marque auction, which will see in excess of 30 roadgoing and competition-ready models cross the block.
And as this is just the fifth DB5 to roll off the production line, and a matching-numbers car that has never been fully restored, it’s a noteworthy lot.
Chassis number DB5/1305/L is left-hand drive and, when new, was sold through British Motor Car Distributors in San Francisco to the Washington Fruit & Produce Corporation.
Then, in 1981, this car’s current custodian bought it off the street in Sausalito, California, and he has owned it ever since, entrusting its care to marque experts.
“This early interest in the inaugural auction from owners around the world is an extremely positive sign,” said Paul Spires, President of Aston Martin Works.
“The market for historic cars is constantly evolving and it is vital that, with its remarkable heritage and growing appeal worldwide, Aston Martin is represented by the best auction house in the business. RM Sotheby’s give us at Aston Martin Works – the global heritage division of Aston Martin – the opportunity to reach a first class international clientele.”
