Fabulous turnout as sun shines on Wilton Classic and Supercar

| 14 Aug 2014

Atrocious weather at the start of the day didn't stop thousands of enthusiasts enjoying a fabulous day surrounded by stupendous machinery at the Wilton Classic and Supercar with Castrol Edge on Sunday (10 August).

The event, held at Lord Pembroke's magnificent Wiltshire estate is only in its second year of consciously encouraging a big classic content, but was rewarded with exceptional examples of sensational cars.

The main theme was Head to Head, bringing together iconic classics and their spiritual successors. Pairings included a Mercedes-Benz SLS nose to nose with Lord Pembroke's own 300SL Gullwing, plus similar delectable duos from Bugatti, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Aston Martin and more.

For the first time, this year Wilton hosted a rally stage and crowds flocked to see and hear the Group B rally cars as they roared around the estate.

The event is supported by C&SC and its sister website PistonHeads and readers who pre-booked could take advantage of special C&SC/PH advance parking, which created a superb car show in its own right.

Other attractions included a wonderful showing in the EFG paddock, with Bugatti EB110, BMW 507, Le Mans-winning 'Blower' Bentley and much more. There was also a chance for visitors to see the Bloodhound, the car designed to break the 1000mph barrier on land.

Three prizes were handed out on the day, Gavin Moule's McLaren F1 winning Best Supercar, a 911RS taking Spirit of Wilton and Best Classic going to a Ferrari 250 SEFAC hotrod.

Lord Pembroke said: "We held our most ambitious and impressive display of world-class classic and supercars in our six year history. At midday, welly boots were cast aside and the suncream came out allowing all to sit back and enjoy the fantastic displays put on by Slowly Sideways and their Group B rally cars, as well as the Inch Perfect trials bike display team.

"Castrol with Richard Noble presented the immensely impressive Bloodhound Land Speed Record car whilst families made the most of the 'Little Landies' and our huge array of specialist food stands.

"We are delighted that those who braved the pessimistic weather forecast not only left with big smiles but also a suntan!"
