The day Ole Koch’s children asked him to build them soapbox racers was a turning point, starting a new business direction for this talented German.
“I was delighted, and together we started sketching a racer in the style of the 1920s,” recalls Ole.
“First we made a large cardboard model in my workshop and then began to shape the bodywork in aluminium.”
The process thrilled him, and the beautifully finished half-scale, vintage-style soapbox involved all of the skills – including metal shaping, woodwork and leather upholstery – that he had learned through various past projects, such as artistic studies and his own rebuilds of classic cars.

“I was really excited by the result and wanted to make more of the idea,” he says.
“The styling of vintage Bentleys was an inspiration.
“The shape, size and power always impressed me, and these elements have featured in my designs.
“The dummy supercharger at the front was inspired by Sir Henry ‘Tim’ Birkin’s ‘Blower’ team cars.”
